ST. PETER INTERPARISH SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD

St. Peter Interparish School is an accredited Catholic elementary school recognized by the Diocese of Jefferson City, Missouri. The St. Peter Interparish School Advisory Board advises the pastor and principal in developing school objectives and policies. The Board recommends how best to carry out goals developed by the Diocesan School Office, which, along with the Bishop, sets the direction of Catholic Education in the Diocesan Church.

St. Peter Interparish School Advisory Board meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the 4th Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise designated) in the faculty room or school library. Interested parents are welcome to attend except for executive session.

St. Peter School Advisory Board Minutes

2008-2009 Board
July 8, 2008

Members present: Paul Rockers, Msgr. Lammers, Mark Rehegan, Bruce Crane, Laura Ward, Marti DuPuis, Angie McMichael, Jane Maurer, Joseph Gulino, and Spencer Kemmer.

Excused: Shelley Smith

Call to order: Paul Rockers, President.

Prayer: Msgr. Lammers.

Long Range Goals and Planning

Paul called the special meeting to order to discuss goals proposed by the self study evaluation and by previous School Boards and administrations. Dr. Gulino led the discussion going through the recommendations step by step.

Self Study evaluation:
Reach out to embrace El Puente and Hispanic community.
Response: Paul suggested that older students be encouraged to possibly attend Spanish Masses.
Response: investigate ways for students to learn from the Hispanic community
Response: Spanish language class. This would be above and beyond class taught by Kris Arthur. See if possibility of getting volunteer due to financial constraints.
Generate more positive interaction and behavior between parents, students, and teachers.
Response: Discussed the possibility of town hall style meetings.
Response: Communication through the use of E-mail.
Response: Make certain everyone follows the process for airing concerns and grievances. This would possibly keep someone from being blindsided and becoming defensive.
3. To continue awareness and promote Christian behavior in students, paying
Attention to bullying and cliques.
Response: Continue to stress the importance of Mass participation as fundamental to our faith.
Utilizing means for teachers to provide consistent and timely
communication to parents regarding student classroom and school activities.
Response: Make better use of e-mail. Dr. G and Jane both expressed possibility that some may be technologically hampered so this may not always be the best way.
Make liturgical seasons a school wide focus.
Response: With input from the school, see if the liturgical committee could help implement changes to bring this to fruition.
Evaluate the need for additional maintenance personnel.
Response: This has been completed.
Update maintenance equipment as needed.
Response: This has been completed.
8. Work with the parish office to develop better planning documents for the
school and parish finance committees and
Work to make the accounting structure for the school budget and parish
budget identical.
Response: These processes are in the works.
Provide training regarding child development theory, and practice at
Working with children of all ages in varied work related situations.
Response: Required adults are in place, and high schoolers are to be trained to assist in reaching this goal.

Past Recommendations:
Safety and security measures for school grounds.
Response: Most building and ground improvements have been completed with the exception of:
a) Steve McMichael is in the process of changing the library doors have safety
glass.
b) changing some of the classrooms doors to have better security not done due
to expense.
Resource program.
Reponse: Completed with the exception that on teachers assistant cut for 2008-2009 school year.
Move the computer classroom from the basement to the old EMG room in
the library.
Response: Completed
4. Move the first grade classroom on the first floor to the vacated computer
classroom.
Response: Completed
Renovate the vacated first grade classroom on the first floor for a new
science laboratory.
Response: Completed
Gifted Program
Response: Special Resource Room (Bartow Room) headed by Mrs. Remus with teacher input in place. She is a volunteer and this room can be used by all, not just gifted students per se. Also mentioned during this that Lacy Ralston is the new school counselor.
Renovate the cafeteria
Response: The new cafeteria was built.
Construct a new multipurpose facility with additional classrooms.
Response: The new school addition was completed.

Dr. Gulino pointed out that much more could be done but that the school was constrained by the lack of additional time and money.

The final recommendation made by Marti was the need to stress technology training in all grades. Jane commented that a curriculum was set.

Dr. Gulino finished the meeting by giving new members a rundown of SAB regulations.
-what is discussed at meetings should stay confidential until released by the board.
-the SAB is advisory only. Recommendations go to Dr. Gulino who then may or may not pass them on to Msgr. Lammers.
-direct problems to the proper person. In other words work together for the betterment of St. Peter School.

The next meeting is August 26th, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.

Angie made a motion to adjourn. Bruce seconded. Meeting was adjourned.
